The international movement to end violence against women and girls comes to Seattle with a benefit performance of Eve Ensler’s award-winning work “The Vagina Monologues” on April 17, 2010 with shows at 3:00 PM and 8:00 PM and a VIP reception at 6:30 PM.

Each year, 1 in 3 women in the U.S. will be victims of sexual assault, domestic violence and/or rape, a staggering statistic that only counts reported cases. “Many survivors of violence are shamed into being silent about their experience,” explains Ye-Ting Woo, Vice-Chair for the Asian & Pacific Islander Women & Family Safety Center, event sponsor. “Events like this are often a powerful catalyst in encouraging women to come forward and share their story.”

“We are excited to have nationally-renowned performers and local talent volunteer their time to make this production a success,” explain Event Coordinators Trang Tu and Rachel Kim. V-Day Seattle 2010 will feature award-winning actresses Jennifer Paz ("Miss Saigon"), Tamlyn Tomita ("Karate Kid II"), and a brilliant all-Asian Pacific Islander cast of local community activists.

All proceeds from the performances will benefit the Asian and Pacific Islander Women and Family Safety Center’s work to support survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking.

Performances are Saturday, April 17, 2010 at the Filipino Community Center at 5740 Martin Luther King Jr. Way South, Seattle, WA 98118.
