The Safety Center takes a "holistic approach" to providing education and outreach. We strive to weave a world of shared caring by working in solidarity with a network of diverse organizations and community members working to end domestic violence in API communities as well as supporting people working with immigrant and refugee communities experiencing violence and abuse associated with trafficking and "mail order brides."

We work on all compounding factors - socio-political and the root factors of oppression. We look at the intersections of all of the "isms" at the "whole layer" of oppression: who is getting funding? and who is getting victimized by public policy? and we act in a variety of different ways and employ a wide range of tactical strategies to achieve our mission.

Our yearly activities include:

• Attend and present at conferences and workshops and share our input.
• Promote international organizing by providing technical assistance on "cultural competency" for DV workers through other organizations such as VAWO, the Washington State Coalition, other State coalitions.
• Work with the Filipino community to sponsor at least one education and outreach conference a year in partnership with the Filipino Domestic Violence Education Committee.
• Continue providing workshops and presentations for the National Institute for Community Organizing (especially targeting organizing in rural areas).
• Continue working with immigrant and refugee domestic violence network on a local, national, and International level.
• Meet and communicate with the Governor, King County Executive Director, and City Council.
• Participate in serving as one of the voices for the API communities in our region.
• Work with communities to create "talking points" on specific topics, for example: anti-terrorism, proposed budget cuts, unemployment/employment action for API women in domestic violence situations.
• Participation in the yearly Trafficking Conference.
• Provide technical assistance for the City of Seattle's Multi-lingual Access Project.
• Provide technical assistance to Alaska and Hawaii community organizing projects.
• Organize our candlelight "VIGIL" every year in March, to continue raising community awareness about domestic violence in API communities and to acknowledge victims of abuse from our communities.
